The Ultimate Game – I have a dream
As I was watching the awesome first trailer of Cyberpunk 2077, I was reminded again of a game idea that I’ve had already some years ago. In fact Cyberpunk 2077 would be THE PERFECT setting for the game. As I’m still hoping that some day some game company will pick up the idea to create the MOST AWESOME game ever, let me describe here all the details.
This game has the potential to literally change the world and the way we are looking at PC games today. It even can be connected perfectly with VR technology – the next big thing, right?
The concept is the following:
Imagine a MMORPG in the setting of Cyberpunk 2077. The idea is to create an entire virtual city that becomes a second reality, a second world people are living in – like being in a Matrix kind of way.
The entire city is open to all players.
You have public transport, taxis, cars.
And all buildings can be entered to offer different experiences. A little bit like a GTA but where you are free to enter any building but more realistic and mature than GTA of course.
Basically everything you can find in the real world, you can find there too.
You can hang out at bars with your friends, spend the night in clubs, strip clubs or go dining etc. There are super markets to buy items you need and each player can also sell items that he has got in the game. I always loved this feature in Silkroad, where each player could open a shop just anytime to sell his stuff to other players.
Of course there are quests and NPCs that keep users busy.
Players can and have to level their characters to reach certain goals and achievements. For instance certain areas of the city can open up only after reaching a certain level. Like in any other MMORPG.
Since the game is set in a futuristic environment possibilities for storyline, quests and achievements are endless.
And there’s trade. Trading will connect virtual reality with the real reality because the in-game currency will make use of Bitcoin or some own game specific coin. This will also be one of the first real use cases for a day-to-day use of a crypto currency and can have a massive potential.
Each player has to own a flat (or house if reached a certain level) in the game that is his home to permanently store collected items, rest to recover health etc.
The player can get new flats from the in-game real estate market. For the flat the player has to pay a monthly rent – payed with the real crypto currency. This money is being used to monetize the game and keep the servers running. The player likes to move into a penthouse at 40th floor with view over downtown? No problem, the rent will just be more than for a 1-room appartment in the poor city outskirts.
Of course there are crimes too. People can be robbed or killed by gun violence. People selling drugs etc. Getting caught will result in losing your flat, all your in-game items and you have to pay a fee to be released from prison.
If you’re lucky though, you can shoot the rich guy from next door and get his flat and his items.
Another possibility for monetising the game is selling in-game advertising space. There’s plenty of possibilities from ads on taxis and public transport to billboards and neon lights on skyscrapers. Of course all must be designed to fit into the game style.
It’s really all about creating a second reality. A parallel society that lives in this virtual city and that users identify with. Of course there was Second Life but this was crap. Cyberpunk 2077 is cool – dark, authentic and mature.
Paired with a cool mobile app, users will be drawn into the game any minute they spend in the real world. Like Pokemon Go does in some way. For instance the player could receive messages from NPC or other player on their phone. Also, the player might need to collect important items in the real world, that will be used in the game. Like rare minerals that will be used to create weapons or other items. And that can be sold in the game. (Image if players could make real profit while gaming!) Imagine having an argumented reality, that turns the real world into the Cyberpunk 2077 world! How awesome would that be!
You like the idea? If you want to make it a reality, I would be happy to participate!
